Brazil’s halal certification surpasses Europe’s in global credibility

Brazil has earned a prominent position in the global halal market — products made in accordance with Islamic cultural and religious traditions. Outside the Muslim world, the country is now considered the most credible in halal certification, surpassing even European nations with large Muslim populations.
The assessment comes from Marcelo Siegmann, export director at Seara Alimentos, who spoke last Tuesday (27) in São Paulo at the Global Halal Brazil Business Forum 2025, an event organized by the Arab-Brazilian Chamber of Commerce and Fambras Halal, focused on business and opportunities in the Muslim consumer market.
Brazilian halal certification is more respected than Europe’s
According to Siegmann, the reputation of Brazil’s halal seal is globally recognized and, in some cases, surpasses even local European certifications. This credibility gives Brazil a significant competitive edge in international trade, particularly in the animal protein sector. “Today, there is no non-Muslim country in the world whose halal seal is as internationally respected as Brazil’s. In some European countries, Brazilian products are more highly regarded than local halal ones,” said the executive.
Seara, one of Brazil’s largest halal food exporters, operates strongly in Islamic countries, supplying poultry products for which certification of animal origin is mandatory.
Global respect for Brazil’s halal seal
Siegmann also emphasized that international recognition of Brazil’s halal seal exceeds that of Western countries with much larger Muslim communities. He cited examples such as the United States, Russia, Ukraine, and Thailand, which, despite having millions of Muslims, lack certification systems with the same credibility as Brazil’s. “Brazil became the world’s largest exporter of halal animal protein thanks to decades of consistent work. Today, that effort is widely recognized across the globe,” Siegmann added.
Expansion into new sectors and markets
Beyond food, the executive believes Brazil has strong potential to expand halal certification into other categories, such as cosmetics and pharmaceuticals, which also follow specific production standards. “It’s necessary to engage foreign authorities so they can see firsthand the rigor and commitment of Brazilian companies in meeting halal requirements. This is a collective effort that demands commitment from the entire sector,” he concluded.
Event highlights Brazil’s leadership in the halal market
The Global Halal Brazil Business Forum 2025 brought together authorities, business leaders, and representatives of certification bodies to strengthen Brazil’s role in the global halal industry. Sponsors included MBRF, Modon, Seara Alimentos, Eco Halal, Emirates, Grupo MHE9, Prime Company, Carapreta Carnes Nobres, and SGS.
