Fertilizer sector projects growth despite challenging year
Sep, 19, 2025 Posted by Lucas LorimerWeek 202539
From January to August 2025, the Paraná State Union of the Fertilizer and Agricultural Correctives Industry (Sindiadubos) estimated a 10% increase in fertilizer imports into Brazil compared with the same period in 2024. However, in terms of nutrients, volumes were close to last year’s levels, highlighting a reduction in the concentration of imported fertilizers. “This scenario is mainly influenced by Chinese production of ammonium sulfate, single superphosphate, and nitrogen- and phosphorus-containing products,” said Sindiadubos president Aluísio Schwartz Teixeira.
The growth projection follows data released by the National Association for Fertilizer Diffusion (ANDA). According to the entity, deliveries of fertilizers increased 10.5% between January and June, partially explained by the reduced concentration of these products. At the same time, fertilizer imports into Brazil were accompanied by a 3% increase in the price charged per thousand tonnes compared with the same period in 2024.
With higher commercial values, the sector continues to face challenges arising from the Russia–Ukraine conflict and its international geopolitical impacts. “Even so, the industry has sought solutions to ensure market supply, given the expectation of a record grain harvest,” Teixeira noted.
19th NPK Symposium 2025
To address agribusiness trends and recent changes at both national and international levels, Sindiadubos will hold the 19th NPK Symposium on October 30 in Curitiba, Paraná. The event will bring together stakeholders across the production chain, from fertilizer producers in Brazil and abroad to end consumers.
According to Teixeira, “because of the sector’s economic importance and its direct link to agricultural productivity, it is essential to promote events focused on discussing key fertilizer market trends.” He also stressed that fertilizer use is a crucial part of Brazilian agricultural output. “With fertilizer imports and shifting dynamics in the global economy, it is essential to gather the industry to exchange information, experiences, and networking,” he added.
The symposium program will feature three lectures on: performance and outlook for 2025–2026, national and international agribusiness scenarios, and cost and profitability projections for the 2025/2026 harvest. Speakers include Aluísio Schwartz Teixeira, president of Sindiadubos; Jeferson Souza, fertilizer analyst at Agroinvest; and agribusiness expert, journalist, and presenter Kellen Severo.
