U.S. President Donald Trump suggested on Sunday that his country could begin buying beef from Argentina in an effort to curb inflation and reduce high meat prices in the United States.
“We could buy some beef from Argentina. If we do that, prices will come down,” the president told reporters aboard Air Force One en route to Washington. He added that such a move would also help Argentina, a country he described as “a great ally.”

Trump had already said on Friday that his administration was working on a deal to lower beef prices, which have hit record levels due to herd reductions caused by drought in the western U.S.
Trump’s close ties with Argentina
The remarks come just days after Trump met at the White House with Argentine President Javier Milei to discuss a U.S. financial aid package that includes a $20 billion credit line to strengthen Argentina’s peso.
During the meeting, Trump expressed full support for Milei, while conditioning the continuation of U.S. aid on the ultraliberal leader and his party, La Libertad Avanza, remaining in power.
“(Argentina) has no money, has nothing, it’s fighting hard to survive. If I can help them survive in a free world… The president of Argentina is doing the best he can, but they are dying,” Trump said Sunday regarding his support for the country.
