After One Year, APS Hands Over Administration of the Port of Itajaí

After one year, the Santos Port Authority (APS) is no longer responsible for managing the Port of Itajaí (SC). Today’s publication, December 11, in the Federal Official Gazette transfers responsibility to Companhia Docas da Bahia (Codeba), which manages the Ports of Salvador, Aratu, and Ilhéus.
“We fulfilled the mission given by the Ministry of Ports and Airports to restore operations at the Port of Itajaí. We kept the Port operating without interruption, with an average monthly revenue of R$ 14.5 million; maintained 70 jobs; resumed maintenance dredging at a cost of R$ 40.5 million; resolved outstanding liabilities; and APS was still able to secure approval for R$ 154 million in investments for the Port of Itajaí for 2026. We wish every success to Codeba’s management, which begins now,” said APS president Anderson Pomini.
APS took over management of the Port of Itajaí on January 2, 2025, when the municipal concession ended and responsibility returned to the federal government. As a result, the Port of Itajaí once again became attractive and competitive. Now, with the end of APS’s administration on January 1, 2026, Codeba will assume responsibility.
Below is a historical overview of long-haul container throughput through the Port of Itajaí starting in September 2024, when operations were resumed. The chart, prepared with DataLiner data, excludes transshipment, cabotage, and other internal movements:

“Codeba has established itself as a national reference in the administration of ports and waterways by combining long-term planning, operational efficiency, and management capability. It is with this expertise—respecting cultural characteristics, valuing operational potential, and maintaining the administrative autonomy of the local management—that we will work to create a federal Dock Company for the Port of Itajaí and transform it into an even more competitive terminal, ensuring legal certainty and driving sustainable growth and operational excellence,” said Antonio Gobbo, president of Codeba.
