Since August 2025, TCP, the company that operates the Paranaguá Container Terminal, has been receiving components destined for the construction of Arauco’s new megafactory. Arauco is a global benchmark in the pulp, wood products, forest reserves, and bioenergy sectors.
The equipment is part of Project Sucuriú, which marks the implementation of the company’s first plant in Brazil and the largest pulp mill in the world built in a single phase. Located in Inocência, Mato Grosso do Sul, the facility will occupy 3,500 hectares and have an annual production capacity of 3.5 million tonnes of pulp, with operations scheduled to begin in the second half of 2027.
Valmet, the Finnish company and global leader in technologies for the pulp, paper, and energy industries, is responsible for supplying the entire production process, including automation and flow control systems. After being unloaded at the terminal, the components are transported by road to the construction site, approximately 50 km from the city of Inocência.
“With a broad range of integrated logistics solutions and continuous coordination with the relevant authorities to optimize import flows, we ensure greater agility and predictability for large-scale projects, keeping the supply chain constantly moving,” said Giovanni Guidolim, TCP’s Commercial, Logistics, and Customer Service Manager.
The most recent operation took place in late November, when the vessel Green Rhizao delivered more than 70 components. The cargo was lifted by the ship’s crane and unloaded onto specialized trailers designed for oversized cargo. In the storage area, handling was carried out using large reach stackers and TCP’s mobile harbour crane (MHC), which stands 40 metres tall and has a lifting capacity of up to 100 tonnes.
The biggest challenge of the operation was handling a top separator, a component measuring 10 metres in length and weighing more than 62 tonnes. “The top separator is an essential component of the digester in the pulp production process and, due to its dimensions, requires extremely precise handling operations, reinforcing the importance of safe logistics to ensure quality and reliability upon delivery at the project site,” explained Thiago Brandalize, Valmet’s Project Manager.
“TCP has a specialized team and modern equipment to carry out complex operations involving oversized cargo. The handling of the top separator was a success, and in December, we positioned the load onto a multi-axle truck with a length of 40 metres, which will continue its journey to Inocência,” highlighted Fabio Mattos, TCP’s Logistics Operations Manager.
Imports of the components—mostly originating from Europe and Asia—are expected to continue through the end of 2026.
