Port of Santos worker dies after 20-meter fall inside terminal

A 40-year-old technical assistant died after suffering a fatal accident at the Port of Santos, on the coast of São Paulo state, after falling from a height of about 20 metres during an inspection, according to initial information.
Denise dos Santos Teixeira was reportedly walking along a catwalk inside the terminal when part of the floor gave way, causing her to fall. The incident occurred inside Warehouse 16.
In a statement to Brazilian news outlet g1, Corredor Logística e Infraestrutura (CLi) confirmed the employee’s death and said the circumstances surrounding the accident are under investigation. The company said it is in contact with the victim’s family and is providing support.
Denise’s body was found by a co-worker at around 9:00 p.m. on Monday (12). The colleague reported that the conveyor walkway on which she was walking likely collapsed. According to the account, she was wearing personal protective equipment at the time of the accident.
The victim’s sister, Simone Freire, said there was a delay in the arrival of forensic authorities and in the release of the body. She said the death was confirmed at around 9:00 p.m., but forensic teams only arrived at the site at about 4:00 a.m. on Tuesday (13).
The body was released at around 11:00 a.m., she said. Denise is survived by three children and one grandchild.
