Brazil’s beef export industry expects a resolution within 60 days to the additional tariffs imposed by the United States, according to Roberto Perosa, president of the Brazilian Association of Meat Exporting Industries (Abiec), in an interview with CNN Brasil.
“I believe that within 30 to 60 days this issue should be settled,” Perosa said.
He noted that the association is “very optimistic” about the ongoing negotiations between Brazil and the U.S. following the meeting between Presidents Lula and Donald Trump in Malaysia late last month.
Brazil’s beef exports to the U.S. — the second-largest market for the product after China — have declined since August, when the additional tariffs were introduced.
“I believe we’ll have good news soon, with the potential removal of these additional tariffs so that the beef trade flow can resume,” he added.

The tariff on Brazilian beef currently stands at 76.4%, including a 50% additional charge. Previously, the rate for exports to the U.S. was 26.4%.
In addition to beef, Brazil is also seeking to reduce tariffs on other products, such as coffee. The U.S. is the world’s largest consumer and leading importer of Brazilian coffee beans.
