In January, Paraguay exported a total of 738 tonnes of poultry products worth USD 742,049, marking a 7.94% decline in volume and a 22.31% drop in value compared with the same month in 2025.

Export destinations also shifted significantly, with Vietnam emerging as the leading market, overtaking countries that topped purchases in January 2025, such as Iraq and Albania.

The figures represent a 7.94% decrease in export volume year-on-year, while export revenues fell 22.31%. In January 2025, total poultry exports reached 802 tonnes and USD 955,116.

Breaking down the data by product category, a report by Paraguay’s National Animal Health and Quality Service (Senacsa) shows that chicken meat exports totaled USD 485,821 and 290 tonnes in the first month of the year, a year-on-year decline of 39.29% in volume and 36.96% in value.

By contrast, Paraguay exported around 419 tonnes of poultry offal worth USD 235,027, representing growth of 56.55% in volume and 66.16% in value compared with January 2025.

Poultry giblets, however, posted a 49.22% drop in volume to just 28 tonnes, while export revenues fell 50.71% year-on-year to USD 21,200.

Vietnam accounted for 28% of total poultry exports in January, followed by the Philippines with 23%. Guinea ranked third, with a 12% share. The remaining exports were distributed among Iraq (9%), Kosovo and Curaçao (8% each), the Seychelles (5%), Ghana (4%) and Mozambique (1%).

Compared with January 2025, the shift in destination markets is notable. At the start of last year, Vietnam represented only 8% of shipments, while Iraq absorbed 53% of total exports.

In November last year, Paraguay made its first poultry meat shipment to the Philippines, just two months after the official opening of that market, as part of its strategy to expand trade ties in Asia. The initial consignment comprised 27 tonnes of boneless chicken leg with skin, packed in 2,250 boxes of 12 kilograms each.

According to the consumer price index compiled by Paraguay’s central bank (BCP), poultry cuts showed moderate price variations in January 2026 compared with the previous month. Chicken wings fell 0.6%, while whole chicken declined 0.2%. Chicken legs remained stable, and chicken breast dropped 0.7%. Chicken stew cuts were the only category to rise, up 0.9% compared with December 2025. On a year-on-year basis, all cuts recorded price increases.
