The cost of duplicating the state highway that provides access to the port region of Itapoá will total R$ 222 million. Governor Jorginho Mello announced the authorization to launch the bidding process on Thursday evening during the inauguration ceremony of the new board of Ajorpeme in Joinville — William Holz took over as president of the business association. Following the announcement, the tender notice is expected to be published in the coming days.

SC-416 is 25 kilometers long and runs between SC-417 and the municipal road of José Alves, also crossing the municipality of Garuva. This 40-kilometer corridor connects BR-101 to the port area of Itapoá, where Porto Itapoá is currently operating and where the Coamo port will be built. The royalties agreement signed with the government of Paraná provides for the duplication of SC-417 by the neighboring state, with an investment of R$ 365 million. The municipality of Itapoá will be responsible for duplicating the municipal road.

On SC-416, a new concrete lane will be built alongside the existing roadway. This approach allows construction to proceed without interrupting vehicle traffic. After the new lanes are completed, the current roadway will receive a concrete overlay using the whitetopping technique.

The current volume of truck traffic has already created demand for the duplication, which is also necessary due to expansion plans at Porto Itapoá — set to receive larger vessels following the deepening of the Babitonga Bay outer channel — and the construction of the Coamo terminal.
