Port of São Francisco, Sindiporto sign deal to implement sustainable power system for tugboats

The Port of São Francisco do Sul and Sindiporto Brasil have signed a cooperation agreement to implement a power supply system for tugboats operating at the port.
The project calls for the installation of electrical infrastructure at Berth 103, allowing tugboats to connect to the port’s power grid during idle periods and eliminating the need to keep auxiliary engines running.
The solution follows a model already adopted by international ports and is aligned with best practices in decarbonization and energy efficiency.
The agreement was signed by port president Cleverton Vieira and Sindiporto president Márcio Castro at the Port of São Francisco booth during Intermodal, the largest logistics event in the Americas, being held this week in São Paulo.
According to the port’s operations director, Guilherme Medeiros, the initiative represents an important step in upgrading port infrastructure, adding operational value without requiring direct investment from the port in system implementation. “It is another important step in the Port of São Francisco’s sustainability strategy, while also strengthening our institutional image as a benchmark in innovation and technological progress,” Medeiros said.
The investment required to implement the system, estimated at about 900,000 reais, will be fully funded by Sindiporto, including the electrical infrastructure, interconnections, metering systems and technical adjustments.
As a way to support and encourage adoption of the system, the parties are also studying a discount on electricity tariffs during the first months of operation.
