On the morning of Saturday, May 30, Carlos Luciano, Chief of Staff of the Federal Port Authority – CODEBA, inspected the vessels that will be used in the resumption of operations on the new São Francisco River Waterway. The initiative is part of the preparatory actions for the start of operations, which depend on the formal transfer of waterway management to the company.

The convoy consists of a barge, a CS flat-top barge, the dredger Matrichã, and the hotel vessel Cidade Pirapora, which has 28 cabins and can accommodate up to 80 passengers.

Following authorization from the Ministry of Ports and Airports (MPor), CODEBA is developing the new São Francisco Waterway project and organizing all necessary documentation with the National Department of Transport Infrastructure (DNIT) and the Brazilian Navy (Port Authority) to transport the vessels to Juazeiro, Bahia.

“Our goal is to promote regional development through a more economical and environmentally sustainable mode of transportation, attracting investment and strengthening the economic integration of the 505 municipalities that will be impacted by the resumption of operations on the São Francisco Waterway, creating a new driver of development for the country,” explained Carlos Luciano.

CODEBA’s management team is also in discussions with the São Francisco and Parnaíba Valleys Development Company (CODEVASF) to establish a Technical Cooperation Agreement to carry out joint initiatives, including river revitalization projects and studies to identify business opportunities along the waterway corridor.
