Brazil’s National Waterway Transportation Agency (Antaq) signed a cooperation agreement with Banco do Brasil on Tuesday (June 9) to support the digital modernization of concession and public-private partnership processes in the country’s port sector.
The agreement was signed at the Special Secretariat for the Investment Partnerships Program, or SEPPI, within the Office of the Chief of Staff, in Brasília. Antaq was represented by Director-General Frederico Dias, Director Wilson Lima Filho, Acting Director Cristina Castro and Ygor di Paula, the agency’s special secretary for tenders and concessions.
The partnership is intended to strengthen the use of digital tools in concessions and public-private partnerships, bringing more efficiency, transparency and innovation to public bidding processes.
“This is an important and innovative initiative that fits well with the agency’s red-tape reduction agenda. First, because of Banco do Brasil’s credibility; second, because this partnership means paying even closer attention to the port sector, which leads the country in the number of auctions,” Dias said.
Also attending the meeting were Marcus Cavalcanti, special secretary of the Investment Partnerships Program at the Office of the Chief of Staff; Michele Alencar, general manager at Banco do Brasil; and other representatives of Banco do Brasil and the PPI.
About the PPI
The Investment Partnerships Program was created to expand and strengthen cooperation between the state and the private sector through partnership contracts and other privatization-related measures. The PPI Secretariat supports ministries and regulatory agencies in carrying out the program’s activities.
