Paraguay’s imports of industrial inputs under the government-led raw-material import program totaled US$196 million through May, up 6% from the same period in 2025, with the metallurgy and chemical-pharmaceutical sectors leading demand.

Together, those two sectors accounted for 65% of the inputs brought into the country under the program, three percentage points more than in April. The same data also show a 12% year-on-year decline in the value of raw materials imported through the program. About 75% of the inputs came from China and India, which accounted for 68% and 7%, respectively, making them the main suppliers to Paraguayan industry.

Metallurgical companies led purchases, with US$94.4 million in imports. The chemical-pharmaceutical sector followed, at US$33.7 million, while tobacco manufacturing accounted for US$14.5 million.

The program also covered imports tied to paper and printing, food and beverages, tobacco products and other manufacturing activities.

Authorities approved 2,861 raw-material import requests through May, up 6% from the same period last year.

In May alone, approved imports totaled US$43 million across 617 requests, benefiting about 135 industrial companies.

In the first five months of the year, the program benefited 237 manufacturers. Roughly 80% were concentrated in metallurgy, chemicals and pharmaceuticals, rubber and plastics, food and beverages, textiles, paper and printing, furniture manufacturing and other industrial segments.

Most of the companies covered by the approved import requests are located in the departments of Central and Alto Paraná, which accounted for 70% and 17% of the total, respectively.
