Chile is projected to export 530,000 tons of citrus in the 2026 season, a 6% increase from the previous season, with about 80% of that volume going to the United States.

Estimates indicate that mandarins will lead citrus exports this year, at approximately 190,000 tons. They will be followed by oranges at 134,000 tons and lemons at 131,000 tons. Initial clementine projections may need revision due to delays in the Coquimbo Region, the primary production area, where high autumn temperatures hindered fruit color development and delayed the start of harvest.

The international market is creating new opportunities for Chilean exporters. An early end to the Peruvian clementine season, a delayed Peruvian mandarin harvest, and limited local fruit supplies in the United States are opening a favorable window for Chilean exports. Additionally, Chilean mandarins might enter the market earlier than last year. The sector is also closely monitoring California’s earlier start to production and how competition evolves over the coming weeks.

Each variety shows a different outlook. Chilean oranges will compete with U.S.-grown Valencia oranges, which are still available, while lemons will enter a market with strong demand but also abundant supplies from several exporting countries. The industry emphasizes that fruit quality, condition upon arrival, and precise size selection will be crucial for maximizing the season’s commercial success.

The cumulative data up to week 24 reflect these mixed results. Clementine exports reached 33,814 tons, down 26% from the same period last year. In contrast, lemon exports were about 22,000 tons, more than twice the 2025 level, supported by a harvest unhindered by bad weather.

As of that date, orange exports totaled 1,902 tons, with the United States and Latin American markets as the primary destinations. The industry is committed to seizing trade opportunities and reinforcing a strategy focused on high-quality fruit to meet the demands of its main destination market.
