Brazil oil exports on track for record in September, secex data shows

Brazilian oil exports totaled 10.1 million tonnes through the fourth week of September, putting the country on track to break a monthly record that has stood for more than three years, according to data from the Foreign Trade Secretariat (Secex) released on Monday (28).

With three more working days still to be counted before the end of the month and exports averaging more than 500,000 tonnes per day so far in September, Brazil could surpass the record volume of 11 million tonnes set in March 2023, according to Secex shipment data.

Exports per working day rose 50% compared with the full month of September 2025, according to the agency, as Brazil benefited from record oil production in recent months.

In addition, disruptions related to the war in Iran, which have affected fuel flows through the Strait of Hormuz, have generated some additional demand for Brazilian oil this year, including from China.

In July, according to data from oil regulator ANP, Brazil’s monthly oil production hit a record for the second consecutive month, driven by pre-salt fields, particularly Búzios and Mero in the Santos Basin. August production data are expected to be released in early October.

With the war in Iran, higher oil prices on international markets are providing an additional boost to export revenue from the commodity, which had surpassed $5.6 billion through the fourth week of September.

According to Secex, oil was exported at an average price of $562.40 per tonne in September through the fourth week of the month, up 26.1% from a year earlier.
