Update on Far East services

Several changes are happening in the market, with the main focus in the last month of 2018 being the FAR EAST service.
This week Maersk announced its new ASIA I service, which will be operated exclusively by the Maersk group. The new service will include 13 vessels, 10 Maersk and 3 Hamburg Sud, thus increasing its capacity by 11.4%. The service will also have participation from Hapag-Lloyd, One and Zim, via slot purchases.
Another change is to the Ipanema service, which will cease to exist, giving space to the new service announced by One, where it, along with Hapag-Lloyd and MSC will operate with their own vessels. Maersk will buy slots in this service, with the intention of mainly serving the port of Rio Grande.
Pacific International Line is joining forces with Cosco and CMA-CGM to bring its customers new products and expand its markets.
The changes will take place in two phases – the first will be a slot exchange where PIL, which services the Sino South America route with its own vessels, will open space for Cosco and CMA-CGM cargo. In return, PIL will be entitled to slots in the ASAS SL I service on vessels operated by Cosco and CMA-CGM. There will be a change in the rotation of ports, with the SSA no longer serving the ports of Buenos Aires and Montevideo, but dedicating its service only to Brazilian ports. In the second phase, the lines will enter with their own vessels in both services, which is expected to happen in April 2019.
