Brazil’s Animal Protein Association, ABPA, announced Brazil’s chicken exports fell 14.7% to 281,800 tons in January, compared to the same month last year. Meanwhile, pork exports registered a 10.7% volume decline to 48,500 tons in the same period.

The country saw a sharp fall in export revenue from chicken exports, down 12.9% to US$453m year-on-year. Revenue generated from pork exports offered no solace, down 17.8% to US$91.6m.

Last month, Brazil’s chicken industry received a huge blow when its largest fresh and processed poultry destination, Saudi Arabia, placed a ban that impacted 5 plants currently exporting to the country, including BRF and JBS plants.

The following Secex chart shows the country’s 10-year January month trend of pork and chicken shipments against export revenues.
