Brazil is set to export US$345 billion in 2025, according to Geraldo Alckmin, who serves as both vice president of the Republic and minister of Development, Industry, Trade, and Services. Speaking at an event marking the inauguration of Apex’s (Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency) new headquarters, he said the country’s total trade flow is also expected to reach a record, totaling US$629 billion when exports and imports are combined.
“We are going to break records this year, even with slower global growth and lower prices. We should reach a record US$345 billion in exports and US$629 billion in total trade. There is no country in the world that has achieved strong and sustainable growth without opening up to the world, without prioritizing foreign trade, without gaining market share,” Alckmin said.
In 2024, according to Secex (the Foreign Trade Secretariat of the Ministry of Development, Industry, Trade, and Services), Brazil exported US$337 billion, a 0.8% decline from the previous year. Total trade grew 3.3% from 2023, reaching US$599.5 billion. Imports totaled US$262.5 billion, resulting in a trade surplus of US$74.6 billion.

Tax reform could boost export potential
Alckmin said overseas sales are expected to gain momentum with the tax reform approved by Congress this year. Citing a study by Ipea (the Institute for Applied Economic Research), the vice president said Brazilian exports could grow by 17%.
Apex highlights the opening of 508 new markets
During the event, which was attended by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, Agriculture and Livestock Minister Carlos Fávaro, Agrarian Development and Family Farming Minister Paulo Teixeira, and business leaders, Apex presented a study on 508 new markets for agricultural products that have been opened in more than 80 countries since 2023.
According to the study, these new markets have export potential of more than US$37.5 billion per year. Estimates from the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock indicate that products gaining new markets in this expansion include meats, cotton, fruits, and seafood.
