The American Chamber of Commerce for Brazil (Amcham Brazil) released an official statement this Tuesday (30) expressing concern over the United States’ decision to impose a 50% tariff on certain Brazilian products. According to the organization, the measure represents a setback in the economic relationship between the two countries and directly threatens the competitiveness of companies, jobs, and consumer purchasing power.
“The decision weakens the economic and trade ties between Brazil and the United States, negatively impacting businesses and workers on both sides,” said Amcham, emphasizing the potential impact on integrated supply chains and Brazilian exports.
Amcham also highlighted that, throughout more than two centuries of uninterrupted diplomatic relations, Brazil and the United States have built a solid partnership based on shared economic interests and strong business exchange. In this context, the organization advocates for resolving trade disputes through constructive and high-level dialogue to preserve bilateral cooperation.
A survey conducted by Amcham between July 24 and 30 revealed that more than half of Brazilian exporting companies estimate that the new tariff may lead to a total interruption or a sharp decline (greater than 50%) in sales to the U.S. market.
