APM Terminals Pecém Renews Operating License Until 2049 and Announces BRL 200 Million Investment in New Expansion Cycle

APM Terminals Pecém has announced the renewal of its operating license for an additional 15 years, extending its presence at the Port of Pecém from 2034 to 2049. This milestone marks the beginning of a new growth cycle focused on modernization, capacity expansion, and emissions reduction, reinforcing APM Terminals’ commitment to the economic and logistical development of the state of Ceará and the broader Northeast region of Brazil.
According to Daniel Rose, CEO of APM Terminals Suape and Pecém, the license renewal results from two years of continuous strategic planning and reflects the terminal’s positive operational performance. “Our partnership with the Pecém Complex and the State Government has enabled this new stage of sustainable expansion and job creation. The solid growth we’ve experienced since operations began, along with the region’s promising logistics and industrial outlook, were key to this decision,” he added.
As part of this new cycle, the company will invest approximately BRL 200 million in the coming years in initiatives that include the acquisition of a fourth STS (ship-to-shore crane) and the replacement of diesel-powered equipment with six electric RTGs (e-RTGs) and electric terminal trucks. These assets will be installed in line with the Port of Pecém’s expansion project, including constructing a new 350-meter berth. This project, to be carried out by the Pecém Complex, will extend the container quay from 600 to 800 meters.
“With the new berth expected to be completed by the end of 2028, and the arrival of new equipment, we anticipate the start of expanded operations by mid-2029. These developments will increase APM Terminals Pecém’s cargo handling capacity from 650,000 to 850,000 TEUs,” said Rose.
“In addition, replacing the current fleet represents a major step toward achieving our sustainability goals and is expected to reduce carbon emissions by 70% by 2030,” he concluded.
