Apple exports fell in the first quarter of 2022

Brazilian fresh apple shipments fell in the first quarter of this year compared to 2021. According to Secex figures, the volume shipped between January and March/22 was 15 thousand tonnes, which is 66% less than in 2021. As a result, revenue was US$ 10 million (FOB), down 43% from the previous year.
According to Hortifruti/Cepea, such shipment reduction occurred due to smaller yields from the 2021/22 harvest, as well as the crisis between Russia and Ukraine, as Russia is a major destination for Brazilian apples. It’s important to note that fruit exports are concentrated in the first half of the year, which will influence the overall volume sent for the year.
