Argentina goat meat exports jump more than 380% through July

Argentina goat meat exports posted strong growth in the first seven months of 2026, supported by higher production, increased slaughter and better average prices in international markets.

From January to July, revenue from goat meat exports exceeded $715,000, up more than 380% from the same period in 2025, according to Argentina’s Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries. Export volume rose 186% in the period, while the average value per metric ton increased 68%.

Although goat meat remains a niche segment within Argentina’s animal protein export basket, the results point to stronger commercial momentum in a regional supply chain traditionally focused on the domestic market and specific export niches.

The figures were prepared by Argentina’s National Directorate of Livestock Production, based on data from SENASA, Indec and customs authorities.

Middle East drives demand

The Middle East is the main destination for Argentine goat meat. Saudi Arabia accounted for 36% of shipments in the period, followed by Oman, with 28%. Sri Lanka, Qatar, the Bahamas and Kuwait completed the list of buyer markets.

For meatpackers, exporters and logistics operators, the concentration of sales in long-distance destinations reinforces the importance of efficient sanitary certification, refrigerated transport, storage and export documentation.

Goat meat requires temperature control, operational reliability and compliance with specific sanitary requirements in importing markets. For that reason, even at smaller volumes, rising exports tend to generate demand for specialized services linked to refrigerated logistics and the international trade of animal protein.

Production and slaughter also rise

The improvement in foreign trade was accompanied by stronger production indicators. Goat slaughter in Argentina rose 18.4% in the first seven months of the year, while production measured in bone-in carcass equivalent increased 37.7% from the same period in 2025.

Argentina’s goat herd currently totals 4.02 million animals. The provinces with the largest herds are Neuquén, Mendoza, Santiago del Estero, Chaco and Salta.

The regional distribution of the herd highlights the role of production areas outside Argentina’s traditional beef export hubs. For the chain to gain scale in foreign trade, the connection between producing regions, authorized plants, cargo consolidation centers and international routes will be decisive.

Niche gains ground in animal protein exports

The rise in Argentina goat meat exports comes as the country works to diversify its animal protein export basket. Beyond beef, sectors such as sheep meat, goat meat, poultry and pork are seeking to expand their presence in international markets, supported by sanitary approvals and the opening of new destinations.

For goat meat, the export base is still small. But simultaneous growth in production, slaughter, export volume and average prices suggests a supply chain gaining strength.

For foreign trade operators, the most relevant point is the combination of a fast-growing niche and geographically concentrated demand. If shipments to the Middle East continue to expand, the chain could create additional opportunities for meatpackers, refrigerated cargo operators and service providers specialized in food exports.

The continuation of this trend will depend on the sector’s ability to maintain regular supply, meet sanitary requirements in destination markets and build competitive logistics for smaller-scale cargoes with higher added value within Argentina’s animal protein export basket.
