Argentina No-GMO soybean meal exports move through Concepción del Uruguay

Argentina shipped 12,000 tonnes of genetically non-modified soybean meal from the Port of Concepción del Uruguay to Denmark, in an operation that could strengthen the Entre Ríos terminal’s role in specialized agribusiness exports.
The cargo was loaded aboard the Eco Crossfire and marked the first shipment of its kind using soybeans grown and processed entirely in Argentina’s Entre Ríos province, according to local officials and companies involved in the operation.
The shipment is part of a business led by the Argentine Cooperatives Association, known as ACA, together with Entre Ríos Crushing and Danish cooperative DLG Agro.
Provincial Economic Development Minister Guillermo Bernaudo said the operation was significant for the province’s port system because it involved a specialized cargo subject to international certification requirements.
From a production standpoint, officials also highlighted that the cargo is linked to what they described as Argentina’s only No-GMO export line produced under a fully traceable chain, from seed and crushing to transport and international loading.
For the Port of Concepción del Uruguay, the operation may serve as a test case for future Argentina No-GMO soybean meal exports, especially as demand grows for certified agricultural products in European markets.
Martín Erdozain, commercial manager at Entre Ríos Crushing, said the shipment marked the beginning of a new stage for the company after years of work and a restructuring process carried out with ACA and international partners.
ACA’s Entre Ríos branch manager, Gabriel Carpenco, said the project began several years ago with the decision to plant No-GMO soybeans and build a provincial supply chain. He said the soybeans were crushed in Gualeguaychú and the export operation was completed through the Port of Concepción del Uruguay.
Port authority president Marcos Di Giuseppe said the shipment is the starting point for a longer-term project that includes more than $400,000 in planned investment to adapt port infrastructure. The plan also includes a gradual increase in shipments over the next 10 years and the possibility of adding animal feed exports to the Caribbean.
According to Di Giuseppe, the planned upgrades would consolidate Concepción del Uruguay as the only public port in Entre Ríos with the conditions required under international GMP+ standards to export this type of cargo to Europe.
The operation positions the terminal as a strategic outlet for differentiated agricultural products and could improve the competitiveness of the province’s port system in higher-value agribusiness exports.
For Argentine exporters, the shipment underscores the role of certified products in expanding market access. While volumes remain limited compared with conventional soymeal flows, Argentina No-GMO soybean meal exports offer a niche opportunity in markets that require traceability, certification and stricter production standards.
