The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries of Argentina stated that the milling of barley for malting reached 1,116 million tons in 2022, a record volume. The growth of cereal industrialization follows the historical production achieved in 2021/22.
According to data from the Undersecretary of Agriculture, 5,279 million tons of barley were harvested, the maximum volume in the last decade. Malt exports also broke records in both volume and value throughout 2022, with sales of 669,506 tonnes and revenues of over US$387 million.
“It should be noted that in Argentina, the increase in demand has boosted the production of barley for malting as an interesting commercial option, stimulating the producer so that the cultivation areas evolve as occurred in the last five years, in addition to benefiting the soil structure , given a better crop rotation”, said the ministry in a statement released to the press.
