Argentina’s wool exports increased sharply in the 2025/26 season, with higher shipment volumes accompanied by an even stronger rise in export revenue.
The country exported 39,730 metric tons of wool between July 2025 and June 2026, up 28% year over year, according to Argentina’s Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries. Export revenue reached US$189.6 million, an increase of 66% from the previous season.
In the 2024/25 season, Argentina had shipped 31,088 tons worth US$114.3 million. Compared with 2023/24, the latest season’s export volume was 69% higher, while revenue increased 101.4%.
The figures show that the recovery has been driven not only by larger volumes but also by a substantial increase in the value generated by overseas sales.
China and EU lead Argentina wool exports
China and the European Union remain the main destinations for Argentine wool, although they dominate different segments of the trade.
China is the leading market for greasy wool, while the European Union leads purchases of combed wool, according to the government report.
The distinction reflects the different stages at which Argentine wool enters international supply chains, ranging from relatively unprocessed fiber to products that have already undergone additional processing before export.
2026/27 season starts with further growth
The first two months of Argentina’s new wool season point to continued export momentum.
Between July and August 2026, wool exports reached 6,901 metric tons on a greasy-wool basis, up 39% from the same period a year earlier. Export revenue more than doubled, rising 103% to US$37.4 million.
The early-season results extend the recovery recorded during 2025/26, when both physical shipments and export earnings posted strong gains.
With China continuing to absorb greasy wool and European buyers leading demand for combed products, Argentina wool exports are entering the 2026/27 season with higher volumes and significantly stronger export values than a year earlier.
