Argentina’s Beef Exports Rise 20% in Jan–Aug 2025 to USD 2.25 Billion

In the first eight months of 2025, Argentina’s beef exports reached USD 2.256 billion, a 24% increase compared to the same period in 2014 and up 20% from the five-year average, according to the Rosario Board of Trade (BCR).
The strong international demand, BCR highlighted, significantly boosted the prices of Argentine beef during this part of 2025, with average prices rising 40% compared to the same period last year.
This price surge mainly reflects the sharp increase in demand from the United States, where beef production has faced significant shortages after the national herd was drastically reduced following a prolonged drought and rising feed costs.
In volume terms, Argentina’s beef shipments totaled 539,000 tonnes from January to August 2025, down 12% from the same period in 2024 and 3% below the five-year average for the period.
Production Growth
Between January and August 2025, Argentina produced nearly 2.1 million tonnes of beef — the second-highest level since 2010, behind only 2023’s result.
Production remained in line with the five-year average for the same period, up just 0.5%.
Higher Productivity
In the first eight months of 2025, Argentine slaughterhouses processed 9 million head of cattle, with an average carcass weight of 231 kg per animal — above the five-year average of 228 kg.
In August 2025 alone, the average carcass weight reached 234 kg, the highest since September 2022.
Smallest Herd Since 2010
According to data from the first foot-and-mouth disease vaccination campaign, Argentina’s cattle herd is estimated at 49.4 million head — the smallest since late 2010, when 48.8 million were recorded.
Recovery in Per-Capita Consumption
So far in 2025, per capita consumption in Argentina is projected at 49.6 kg for beef, 45.5 kg for chicken, and 17.7 kg for pork.
According to BCR, total meat consumption in the country is expected to reach around 113 kg per capita in 2025, a 3% recovery from the previous year, and in line with recent averages.
