Argentina’s agricultural exports posted strong growth between January and August this year compared with the same period in 2024, the Ministry of Economy’s Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries said on Friday, 3, in a statement.
During this period, 76.15 million tonnes were shipped, generating US$33.056 billion in revenue, representing a 9% increase in volume and a 4% increase in export value year-over-year. The ten main agribusiness complexes accounted for 81% of foreign sales, led by soybeans, corn, wheat, cattle, sunflower, barley, peanuts, heavy vegetables, forestry products, and sorghum. Within this group, wheat recorded the largest growth in volume, increasing by 40% from 2024, followed by peanuts (34%), sunflower and sorghum (both 26%), forestry products (24%), soybeans (8%), and barley (3%).
Among items with the fastest growth rates were orange essential oil (up 364%), jojoba oil (344%), peach preparations (293%), dried and skinned vigna, mung, and radiata beans (245%), pet food (113%), vermouth (109%), alcoholic beverages (105%), and baked goods (103%).
The main destinations for Argentine exports during the period were Vietnam, China, Brazil, Saudi Arabia, Peru, Chile, Malaysia, India, Algeria, and Indonesia, which together accounted for just over half of total sales. Among economic blocs, the standout was the Southern African Customs Union, with a 477% jump in import volume, alongside sharp increases for the Middle East (50%), the European Union (28%), and Mercosur (9%). According to the Argentine government, the positive outcome reflects measures adopted to cut taxes and simplify regulations and procedures, facilitating the export process.
The strategy is part of the national government’s priorities aimed at enhancing value chain competitiveness and promoting regional development nationwide.
