According to Argentina’s Secretariat of Fisheries, the country caught 24,708 tons of squid in January, up 24% year-on-year. Of the total volume, 23,794.7 tons were caught using squid jiggers. Argentine fishers predominantly use S and double S sized vessels with an average daily squid turnover of 30-40 tons.
However, there is a growing concern of illegal fishing in Argentina’s Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), where as many as 300 vessels operate on any given occasion.
