Argentina’s agricultural sector has the potential to add more than US$17 billion in exports over the next ten years, according to a report by the Rosario Board of Trade (BCR). The study, based on the AGMEMOD model, projects that the country could create a second export complex similar to soybeans with investments in infrastructure, tax reforms, a competitive exchange rate, and cutting-edge technologies. Total grain production could surpass 250 million tons by 2035, an increase of 57.8% compared to the current scenario.
The most optimistic scenario foresees farmers widely adopting improved seeds, efficient water management, and precision agriculture, raising yields to 80% of the estimated potential. The cultivated area would grow by 9%, with significant increases in corn (+16.8%) and soybeans (+9.8%). In terms of production, corn would lead with 135.7 million tons (+95%), followed by soybeans (71.1 million tons) and wheat (32.5 million tons).
Total exports of grains and derivatives could reach US$50.43 billion by 2035, a 52% increase compared to the baseline scenario. The report highlights that, with appropriate policies, Argentine agribusiness could double its impact on the economy, strengthening the inflow of U.S. dollars into a country facing foreign exchange constraints. Although it depends on ideal conditions, the study underscores the sector’s untapped potential and serves as a reference for public policy development.
