Argentine truck drivers block Bahia Blanca corn exports

To the south of the Argentine Province of Buenos Aires, the Port of Bahia Blanca remains blocked for the sixth consecutive day by a group of truck drivers who are demanding a fixed freight rate. According to the local press, corn exports are paralyzed at the port.

According to the newspaper “LaNacion”, the flow via Bahia Blanca increased 30% in the last month due to the drought on the Paraná River which has affected operations in the ports of the Gran Rosario.
Protesters are preventing trucks from entering to unload the corn onto ships for export. The truckers also opened the trucks full of corn, which then spread throughout the port.

“Barring trucks from entering the Bahia Blanca terminals is absolutely illegal, and affects the port that is helping to export what Paraná does not leave us due to the water emergency. The provincial government must act quickly to guarantee free circulation,” Gustavo Idígoras, president of the chamber of the petroleum industry of Argentina and president of CIARA-CEC (the cereal export center) told “La Nacion”.
