Avian Flu: Peru, Jordan, and Hong Kong Lift Export Restrictions on Brazilian Poultry

On Tuesday (15), Peru, Jordan, and Hong Kong lifted restrictions on Brazilian poultry exports following the resolution of a Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) outbreak in the municipality of Montenegro, in the state of Rio Grande do Sul.

Additionally, Kuwait reduced its restrictions from the entire state to just the municipality of Montenegro.

The current status of Brazilian poultry export restrictions is as follows:

• No export restrictions: South Africa, Algeria, Argentina, Bolivia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Cuba, Egypt, El Salvador, United Arab Emirates, Philippines, India, Iraq, Jordan, Hong Kong, Lesotho, Libya, Morocco, Mauritania, Mexico, Myanmar, Montenegro, Paraguay, Peru, Dominican Republic, United Kingdom, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Uruguay, Vanuatu, and Vietnam.
• Complete suspension of poultry exports from Brazil: Albania, Canada, Chile, China, North Macedonia, Malaysia, Pakistan, Timor-Leste, and the European Union.
• Suspension restricted to the state of Rio Grande do Sul: Angola, Saudi Arabia, Armenia, Bahrain, Belarus, Kazakhstan, South Korea, Namibia, Oman, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkey, and Ukraine.
• Suspension limited to the municipality of Montenegro (RS): Qatar and Kuwait.
• Suspension limited to the municipalities of Montenegro, Campinápolis, and Santo Antônio da Barra: Japan.
• Suspension limited to specific zones: Mauritius, New Caledonia, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Suriname, and Uzbekistan.

The recognition of specific zones, known as regionalization, is in accordance with the Terrestrial Code of the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) and the WTO Agreement on the Application of Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures (SPS Agreement).
