The Port of Bahía Blanca, one of Argentina’s main port complexes, closed 2025 with historically strong operating results. According to the annual report released by port authorities, total throughput made 2025 the third-best year in the terminal’s history, trailing only the record performances posted in 2021 and 2022.
In the bulk segment, the port handled 12.7 million tonnes of grain and byproducts. Corn reaffirmed its position as the terminal’s leading export commodity, accounting for 42% of total volumes. Its share, however, edged lower compared with 2024, giving way to a recovery in wheat and soybeans, which each represented 21% of total shipments.
Cargo intake and flow
Cargo intake also showed robust growth. Total volumes unloaded at the port reached 13.1 million tonnes, up 18.8% from the previous year. The flows were supported by the arrival of 401,650 vehicles, with trucks accounting for 83% of the total, while rail transport made up the remaining 17%.
Export destinations: China and Brazil lead
On the demand side, China strengthened its position as the leading destination for cargo shipped through Bahía Blanca. The Asian country absorbed 2.7 million tonnes, made up largely of soybeans, which accounted for 86% of the flow.
Saudi Arabia ranked second among export destinations, followed by Brazil, which remains a strategic market for absorbing Argentine agricultural surpluses. Vietnam and Malaysia rounded out the list of the port’s main export markets in 2025.
