MRS Logística has announced the creation of a new division, MRS Hidrovias, focused on river transport. The investment, estimated at R$1.5 billion, aims to integrate waterways, railways, and highways between Goiás and São Paulo, improving the efficiency of grain and cargo shipments destined for export.
The project includes two main facilities: a Hydro-Road Terminal in São Simão (GO) and a Multimodal Terminal in Pederneiras (SP), both connected to the Tietê-Paraná Waterway.
Operations are expected to begin in early 2027, with an initial capacity of 2.3 million tonnes per year and the potential to expand to 4 million tonnes.
Cargo will travel by barge from São Simão to Pederneiras, where it will connect to Rumo’s rail network. From there, trains will continue to Jundiaí (SP), linking up with MRS’s rail lines bound for the Port of Santos.
The company expects the logistics corridor between São Simão and Pederneiras to greatly enhance the Central-West region’s access to São Paulo’s coast.
According to MRS, the new terminals will feature piers, warehouses, silos, and automated transshipment systems for transferring cargo between barges, trucks, and railcars, as well as rail connections to the main network.
The Goiás terminal, already acquired by the company, will undergo upgrades to enable river operations and boost logistical efficiency.
MRS estimates that combining these transport modes will cut CO₂ emissions by up to 71% per tonne transported compared to road freight.
The project also includes continuous environmental monitoring and automated control systems. Construction is expected to create around 3,700 jobs, with another 1,200 permanent positions once operations begin.
