The Rio Grande port unit, managed by Portos RS, carried out two more live cargo loading operations between late August and early September. The shipments were made via the MV Gulf Livestock II and Anna Marra vessels, destined for Turkey, totaling 26,379 heads.

The MV Gulf Livestock II loaded 7,111 animals over two days of operation, while the MV Anna Marra carried another 19,268 cattle. These two operations add to the others already completed in 2023, further stressing the Port of Rio Grande’s prominence in this type of cargo.

By July of this year, live cattle movements had already reached 120,000 heads, which is 800% higher than the entire year of 2022, when 10,720 animals were shipped. The increase is attributed to the quality of the breed and compliance with sanitary parameters.

Another contributing factor to this growth is that importing countries do not have sufficient internal protein sources to feed their populations, and the option for live cattle is due to their limited refrigeration capabilities.

In this case, younger cattle are exported and complete their development in the receiving country.
