The Gecex-Camex (Executive Management Committee of the Foreign Trade Chamber) announced on Wednesday (27) that it has approved the application of a provisional antidumping duty on imports of polyethylene resins from the United States and Canada.
In a statement, the body said that the measure will last for up to six months and aims to “protect the domestic industry against unfair trade.”
It also approved the application of definitive antidumping duties on imports of carbon steel sheets from China and polyester fibers from China, India, Thailand, and Vietnam.
Gecex further approved the imposition of limits on imports of paper- and glass-related items, based on values proposed by the National Forum for Circular Economy and the Interministerial Committee for the Socioeconomic Inclusion of Waste Pickers of Reusable and Recyclable Materials.
According to the statement, in the same meeting, tariff reductions were also approved for seven products, including inputs for the healthcare industry. In these cases, import tax rates were reduced to zero, resulting in positive impacts for domestic consumers.
Import tariffs on several capital goods, telecommunications, and IT products were also reduced to zero under the “ex-tarifário” scheme, enabling increased investment in the country and innovation in the industrial sector.
