Brazil’s Gecex, the executive management committee of the country’s foreign trade chamber Camex, approved a new round of Brazil tariff changes and trade defense measures on Thursday, August 27, during its 240th meeting.
The decisions include the application of trade defense measures, changes to import-duty rates and a 60-day extension, starting September 8, 2026, of the 12% tax on oil exports.
On trade defense, Gecex approved final antidumping determinations on PET resin from Malaysia and Vietnam and on carbon steel tubes from Ukraine. The committee also approved a provisional antidumping measure on glass fiber from China and Egypt.
Gecex also decided to renew, for 12 months, higher import tariffs on 28 chemical-sector products. For nearly all of the products, the rate was kept at the level currently in force.
Among the tariff reductions, the committee approved the inclusion of 553 new capital goods and information and telecommunications technology items in Brazil’s ex-tariff list. The regime reduces import duties to zero for products that have no equivalent domestic production.
The full list of deliberations is expected to be published soon on Camex’s official page.
The latest Brazil tariff changes are relevant for importers, exporters and logistics operators because they affect both trade costs and the regulatory treatment of strategic cargoes, including oil, chemicals, steel products and industrial equipment.
