Brazil Corn Exports Surge, Cementing Global Lead Amid U.S. Crop Shortfall

Brazil is solidifying its position as the global leader in corn exports. According to an analysis by Agroinfo from Rabobank, the country closed the 2022/23 harvest season with exports totaling 56 million tons — a 29% increase compared to the previous cycle.
This growth was driven by two key factors: a crop failure in the United States and excellent yields from Brazil’s second corn harvest, commonly known as the safrinha. These elements brought Brazilian corn into the international spotlight, paving the way for the country to become the world’s top grain supplier.
The trend of dominance is expected to continue. For the 2023/24 season, Rabobank estimates that Brazil will export between 45 and 50 million tons, maintaining its position as the world’s leading exporter. “Even though Brazilian exports are expected to decline, mainly due to a smaller harvest, the country will remain the top player in global sales,” the Agroinfo report notes.
This new market dynamic is a direct result of the increased competitiveness of Brazilian corn, which has been gaining ground over the United States — the traditional leader in the sector. With expanding infrastructure and improved logistical efficiency, Brazil is on track to consolidate itself as a reliable and consistent partner in international markets.
