Brazil’s Agriculture and Livestock Minister André de Paula met in Brasília on Monday (May 27) with Mauritanian Agriculture Minister Sid’Ahmed Ould Mohamed for a bilateral meeting focused on strengthening agricultural cooperation between the two countries. During the meeting, the Brazilian minister underscored Brazil’s interest in expanding the partnership. “Brazil is making all of its experience available to strengthen this cooperation. Institutions such as Embrapa are fully available to support partnerships and contribute to the development of solutions tailored to Mauritania’s needs,” André de Paula said.
Among the issues discussed was expanding cooperation in bovine genetic material. Brazil currently exports live cattle and bovine semen to Mauritania, and technical teams are now working on negotiations to open the market for Brazilian bovine embryos.
The meeting also addressed the prospect of signing a memorandum of understanding to structure scientific and institutional cooperation between the two countries. The proposal is to establish a framework for collaboration that would allow technological advances developed in Brazil to be shared for application in Mauritania, with specific work plans to be defined later in areas of common interest.
The Mauritanian delegation is in Brazil on an official agenda and is also expected to visit Expozebu, one of the world’s largest livestock fairs, which this year is holding its 91st edition. The event takes place in Uberaba, Minas Gerais state, and is internationally recognized for advances in cattle genetic improvement.
For Minister Sid’Ahmed Ould Mohamed, the meeting is important for expanding cooperation between the two countries. “Brazil has a solid reputation in cattle ranching and meat production. For that reason, we have a strong interest in deepening this cooperation and expanding technical exchange between our countries,” he said.
According to him, the partnership also opens new opportunities to strengthen trade ties between Brazil and Mauritania in the agricultural sector. “We believe this meeting opens new doors to strengthen trade between our countries, especially in the animal products sector,” the Mauritanian minister said.
