Brazilian port cargo movement accelerated again in October, when national terminals handled 121.5 million tonnes, a result 9.8% higher than that recorded in the same month of 2024. The figures are part of a survey by the Ministry of Ports and Airports (MPor), based on data from the National Waterway Transport Agency (Antaq), and show that accumulated performance between January and October has already reached 1.16 billion tonnes, an increase of 4% over the same period last year.

Containerized cargo was decisive for growth in the overall indicator. In October, the segment rose 11.6% and reached the highest monthly volume in the historical series monitored by the regulatory agency. The full data were released on Wednesday morning (10) in Antaq’s Waterway Statistics bulletin.

For the Minister of Ports and Airports, Silvio Costa Filho, the performance reinforces the expansion trend observed throughout the year. He says the country should reach a new record in 2025, surpassing the 2022 mark by at least 150 million tonnes. According to the minister, the sector’s evolution is directly connected to improved economic conditions in Brazil, which bring predictability to global negotiations, strengthen investor confidence, and support employment in the country. “The result achieved is due to the improvement in our country’s economic conditions, which provide predictability to global negotiations, security to investors, and employment and income to Brazilian workers,” he emphasized.

Foreign trade–related cargo continues to dominate Brazilian ports. Between January and October, more than 830 million tonnes were destined for exports and imports, an increase of 3.8% compared with 2024. Cabotage totaled 190.8 million tonnes in the period, equivalent to 16.4% of total throughput. Inland waterway transport accounted for 9.9% of total transport, reaching 115.4 million tonnes.

Year-to-date, container movement remains among the fastest-growing segments, up 5.3% compared with the first 10 months of 2024, totaling 136 million tonnes. Solid bulk continues to lead, with 692.8 million tonnes, followed by liquid bulk at 275 million tonnes.

The October indicators reinforce the sector’s growth trajectory and the consolidation of a more efficient and integrated logistics system in Brazil. The continuation of this movement points to an increasingly robust operational environment, with greater capacity to sustain the expansion of foreign trade and Brazilian production chains.
