Fertilizer deliveries to Brazil’s domestic market totaled 49.11 million metric tons in 2025, up 7.7% from 45.61 million tons in 2024, according to data released by the National Association for Fertilizer Diffusion (ANDA).

The increase tracked growth in Brazil’s grain harvest, which reached 346.1 million tons in 2025, compared with 292.5 million tons in 2024, according to the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE). In December alone, fertilizer deliveries amounted to 3.83 million tons, up 6.3% from 3.60 million tons a year earlier.

Regional breakdown

Mato Grosso remained the largest fertilizer-consuming state, accounting for 23.2% of national deliveries, or 11.40 million tons in 2025.

It was followed by Paraná with 5.87 million tons, São Paulo with 5.23 million, Rio Grande do Sul with 4.85 million, Goiás with 4.75 million, Minas Gerais with 4.70 million and Bahia with 3.12 million tons.

Domestic output and imports

Domestic production of intermediate fertilizers totaled 7.22 million tons in 2025, up 2.5% from 7.04 million tons in 2024. In December, however, output declined 14.8% year over year to 494,000 tons.

Imports remained the primary source of supply. Brazil imported 43.32 million tons of intermediate fertilizers in 2025, up 4.8% from 41.34 million tons in 2024. December imports reached 3.62 million tons, an increase of 5.2% from the same month a year earlier.

The Port of Paranaguá continued to serve as the country’s main entry point for fertilizers. The terminal handled 10.76 million tons in 2025, up 4% from 10.34 million tons in 2024. The volume accounted for 24.8% of all fertilizer imports through Brazilian ports, according to ANDA.

Despite a challenging year marked by climate instability, fluctuating logistics costs and economic pressure, the sector maintained regular deliveries to farmers, said Elias Lima, chairman of ANDA’s board.

“Fertilizer deliveries were carried out in an orderly and predictable manner, ensuring proper crop planning. This performance was essential to sustain field productivity and support a record harvest, reinforcing the strategic role of input supply chains in Brazilian agribusiness,” Lima said.
