Brazil forecasts drop in poultry exports, record growth in egg sales

Brazilian chicken meat exports are expected to fall by up to 2% this year compared to 2024, according to the Brazilian Animal Protein Association (ABPA), as announced on Wednesday (August 20).
The projected decline comes amid bans on Brazilian poultry following an avian flu case detected at a commercial farm in Montenegro (RS) in May of this year. In June, Brazil declared itself free of the disease.
Although the case has since been resolved and no further outbreaks have occurred, major buyers such as China and the European Union continue to maintain restrictions on the Brazilian product. From January to July, Brazilian chicken exports to China dropped by 32.2%.
Even so, the association forecasts that exports to other countries should resume growth in 2026, with a projected increase of around 5.8%.
Meanwhile, domestic chicken production is expected to continue expanding, with an anticipated growth of up to 3% in 2025 and a further 2% in 2026.
Below is a historical overview of Brazilian chicken meat exports since January 2022. The chart was prepared using DataLiner data:

Record egg sales
In contrast to chicken meat, egg exports are expected to close the year with a record increase of 116.6%, driven by purchases from the United States, where thousands of birds were culled due to avian flu outbreaks.
For 2026, the association expects more moderate growth in egg exports, forecasting a 12.5% increase.
Domestic egg production is also expected to keep rising, with an estimated growth of 7.5% this year and 4.8% in 2026.
