Brazil Gains Access to Malaysian Market for Powdered Guaraná Exports

The governments of Brazil and Malaysia have concluded a phytosanitary agreement, allowing Brazil to export powdered guaraná to Malaysia.
Powdered guaraná, native to the Amazon region, is one of the most in-demand Brazilian biodiversity products on the international market. The fruit is naturally rich in caffeine, tannins, saponins, and catechins, which contribute to its stimulating, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory effects. Due to these properties, it has been gaining traction in the energy drink and supplement industries. Brazil leads global guaraná production and is the top exporter of the ingredient.
Malaysia, with a population of over 34 million and a growing food industry, imported more than US$1.27 billion worth of agricultural products from Brazil in 2024. Key imports included sugar and ethanol products, fibers and textiles, grains, flours, coffee, and meats.
With this announcement, Brazilian agribusiness reaches 395 new market openings since the beginning of 2023.
This result is the outcome of joint efforts between the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAPA) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MRE).
