Brazil keeps rice export volumes stable in Q3 despite price drop

Brazil closed the third quarter of 2025 with stable rice export volumes compared with the same period last year. From July to September, 464.2 thousand tonnes of rice (paddy basis) were shipped, versus 473.2 thousand tonnes in the third quarter of 2024.
In terms of revenue, however, there was a 33.6% decline, totaling US$126.2 million for the period. The figures were released by the Brazilian Rice Industry Association (Abiarroz), based on data from the Ministry of Development, Industry, Trade, and Services (MDIC).
“The quarter was marked by a sharp drop in international rice prices due to a more aggressive commercial stance by major exporters such as India, Thailand, and Vietnam. This movement pushed prices down globally, including in Brazil. Even so, the sector was able to maintain stable export volumes,” said Gustavo Trevisan, Abiarroz’s director of international affairs.
The main destinations in value terms were Senegal, Venezuela, and Peru. Of the total exports, 61.7% were milled rice.
During the same period, Brazil imported 406.6 thousand tonnes of rice (paddy basis), at a cost of US$112 million — an 8.6% decline in volume and a 46.8% drop in value compared with the previous year. Most imports (95.6%) consisted of milled rice.
To expand the presence of Brazilian rice in international markets, Abiarroz has been working alongside ApexBrasil at trade fairs and technical missions to markets such as Mexico, Nigeria, and the Foodex Saudi Expo in Saudi Arabia. The next initiative will be the U.S. Private Label Trade Show 2025 in November.
Since 2012, the “Brazilian Rice” project, developed by Abiarroz, has taken Brazilian rice to more than 100 destinations, placing the country among the world’s top 10 rice exporters and supporting over 30 domestic companies and cooperatives.
“With these missions, we seek to promote Brazilian rice, deepen knowledge of international markets and expand strategic partnerships,” said Abiarroz president Renato Franzner.
Founded in 2009, Abiarroz represents roughly 70% of the milled rice produced in Brazil and works on market access, international promotion, and sustainability initiatives for the rice sector.
