The Brazilian Apple Growers Association (ABPM) is participating in the trade mission led by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva to Indonesia and Malaysia from October 23 to 28, aimed at opening new markets for Brazilian products.
ABPM is represented on the mission by Ronaldo Grosselli, special advisor for logistics and exports at the association, who also serves as a special advisor to the Brazilian Association of Fruit and Derivatives Producers and Exporters (Abrafrutas).
“This mission strengthens efforts to open two new Asian markets and represents an important step in this process,” Grosselli said in a statement.
During a meeting on the trip with Agriculture and Livestock Minister Carlos Fávaro and representatives from both government and the productive sector, Grosselli emphasized the priority of apples and grapes in negotiations with Indonesia and Malaysia, while also flagging apple juice as an opportunity for commercial diversification.
“Apples and grapes should remain priorities in these talks, and apple juice is emerging as a potential new market for the Brazilian product,” Grosselli said.
Indonesia is one of Brazil’s main trading partners in Asia. The country is the 16th-largest destination for Brazilian exports overall and the 5th in agribusiness. In 2024, trade flows between the two countries reached US$6.3 billion, with Brazil holding a surplus of US$2.6 billion. The main exports were soybean meal (US$1.66 billion) and sugar (US$1.65 billion).
