According to the Secretariat of Foreign Trade (Secex) of the Ministry of Development, Industry, Commerce, and Services (MDIC), the Brazilian economy recorded a surplus of $1.02 billion in the first week of October. This figure reflects exports totaling $5.569 billion and imports amounting to $4.549 billion during the period.
Year-to-date, the trade balance has accumulated a surplus of $60.139 billion. The daily average of exports in the first week of October decreased by 1.5% compared to the same month last year, reaching $1.392 billion.
This drop in exports was driven by a significant decline in agricultural sales (-27.1%), partially offset by gains in the extractive industry (9.2%) and manufacturing (3.2%). Meanwhile, compared to the same period last year, the daily average of imports increased by 16.5% to $1.137 billion.
The rise in imports was supported by increased purchases from the manufacturing industry (20.3%) and agriculture (11.3%). In contrast, imports from the extractive sector fell by 15%.
