Brazilian exports to the European Union rose 30.7% between May and September this year compared with the same period last year following the Mercosur-European Union trade agreement. The figure was released Tuesday, Oct. 13, by Development, Industry, Trade and Services Minister Márcio Elias Rosa during an event in Brasília. Brazil has also secured 700 market openings for Brazilian agricultural products since 2023.
From January through September, Brazilian exports to the EU totaled $44.17 billion, up 20% from the first nine months of 2025.
Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira also highlighted the results of the agreement and said trade between Mercosur and European Union countries had increased by more than $6 billion since the treaty was approved and entered into force.
“Brazilian exports rose 10.4% in 2026. The Mercosur-European Union agreement alone, from May until now, represented a 30% increase in our exports,” Vieira said.
The agreement provisionally entered into force on May 1 after nearly 27 years of negotiations between the two blocs.
Expansion
During the event, Elias Rosa said the growth in Brazilian exports was not limited to agribusiness. According to the minister, the country’s foreign trade expanded by an average of 10.5% amid an international environment marked by geopolitical tensions and rising trade barriers.
The minister also highlighted Brazil’s expanding commercial ties with different markets and attributed the results to the ability of Brazilian companies to grow internationally and to government efforts to promote foreign trade.
“It is the strength of the private sector and its ability to expand, especially in agribusiness. The number-one mission of Brazil’s new industrialization strategy involves precisely the agro-industrial sector,” he said.
Commenting on relations with the United States, Elias Rosa described the current situation as “delicate” but defended the continuation of diplomatic negotiations.
“But we will not abandon dialogue and negotiation,” he said.
New Market Openings for Brazilian Agricultural Products
The trade results were announced during a ceremony at Brazil’s Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock marking 700 new market openings for Brazilian agricultural products since the beginning of 2023.
The openings covered 99 destinations, including countries and economic blocs, following sanitary authorizations allowing Brazilian products to enter those markets.
Agriculture Minister André de Paula compared the result with the previous administration.
“There were 700 market openings compared with 241 under the previous government,” he said.
De Paula also highlighted the performance of Brazilian agribusiness and the outlook for domestic production.
“We expect cumulative agricultural GDP growth to reach 29% this year. The 2026/27 crop should total 366 million tonnes,” he added.
Target
According to an estimate by the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (ApexBrasil), Brazil has exported $5.8 billion to markets opened since 2023. The agency projects that sales to these destinations could reach $80 billion over the next four years.
De Paula also said Brazil intends to end the year as the world’s largest food exporter.
“We have exported $169 billion so far this year, $2 billion less than the United States, but we will end the year as the world’s largest food exporter,” he said.
The minister also highlighted federal government investment in financing agricultural production, including funds for commercial and family farming through the Harvest Plan.
“This government invested more than R$610 billion in the current Harvest Plan for commercial and family farming. Over the four years of the Lula administration, more than R$1 trillion has been invested. That shows the importance we place on Brazilian agribusiness,” he said.
De Paula also cited China’s authorization for imports of Brazilian pork offal and said he expects further market openings for Brazilian agricultural products.
