Brazil’s trade balance recorded a surplus of US$ 1.56 billion in the third week of February. This figure stems from US$ 4.97 billion in exports and US$ 3.41 billion in imports during the period, according to the Secretariat of Foreign Trade of the Ministry of Development, Industry, Trade, and Services (Secex/MDIC).
Exports, measured by the daily average until the third week of the month, surged by 17.8%, reaching US$ 1.124 billion, compared to February 2023.
The growth was driven by shipments from the extractive industry, which rose by 61.4% over a year ago. Agriculture (15.9%) and manufacturing (6.7%) sales also played a key role.
The daily average of imports increased by 0.7%, totaling US$ 988.26 million in the month until the third week, compared to last February. The surge was sustained by purchases from the agricultural sector (16.1%), followed by manufacturing (2%). Conversely, imports from the extractive industry fell by 13.2%.
