Brazil secures access to Paraguayan market for chia seed exports
Sep, 08, 2025 Posted by Lucas LorimerWeek 202538
The Brazilian and Paraguayan governments have concluded a phytosanitary agreement, allowing Brazil to export chia seeds to Paraguay.
This market opening represents a business opportunity for small and medium-sized farmers who rely on chia production as a source of income, particularly in the Central-West region, western Paraná, and northwestern Rio Grande do Sul.
In 2024, Brazil exported around US$963 million in agricultural products to Paraguay.
With this announcement, Brazilian agribusiness has achieved 426 market openings since the beginning of 2023.
These results are the outcome of joint efforts by the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MRE).
