Brazil secures market access to export sugarcane seedlings to Guatemala
Aug, 11, 2025 Posted by Lucas LorimerWeek 202534
The Brazilian government and the government of Guatemala have concluded a phytosanitary agreement allowing Brazil to export “in vitro” sugarcane seedlings to the Central American country.
In addition to the added value derived from scientific research, this market opening creates opportunities for the Brazilian private sector, enabling new partnerships in biotechnology, consultancy, and technical assistance.
In 2024, Brazil exported about US$249 million in agricultural products to Guatemala, led by cereals, oilseed seeds (excluding soybeans), and forestry products.
With this announcement, Brazil’s agribusiness has reached 399 market openings since the beginning of 2023.
These results stem from the joint work of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MRE).
