Brazil Secures New Market in Ecuador for Exports of Animal-Origin Meals
Feb, 26, 2026 Posted by Sylvia SchandertWeek 202609
Brazil has achieved another important trade opening in the agribusiness sector. Following bilateral negotiations conducted between the governments of Brazil and Ecuador, the country has obtained authorization to export poultry offal meal and bovine blood meal to the Ecuadorian market.
The measure reinforces the expansion of Brazilian agro-industrial exports and broadens the range of international destinations for animal feed inputs. According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa), the achievement represents another step in the process of market diversification, strengthening Brazil’s position as one of the world’s largest exporters of animal-origin products.
Trade Expansion Adds Value to Poultry and Cattle Production Chains
With the new authorization, Brazil’s animal nutrition input industry gains greater access to international trade. These products, derived from poultry and cattle processing, are widely used in feed formulations and help fully utilize production chains, adding value to output and reducing waste.
According to Mapa, this opening is expected to stimulate new trade partnerships with Ecuador and pave the way for future negotiations involving other Brazilian agribusiness products.
Exports to Ecuador Exceeded US$ 346 Million in 2025
In 2025, Brazil exported more than US$ 346 million in agribusiness products to Ecuador, with highlights including paper, cereals, and coffee, according to federal government data. With the new agreement, exports are expected to grow in the coming years, driven by the inclusion of animal-origin products in the bilateral trade portfolio.
Ecuador thus consolidates its position as an important regional partner, reinforcing economic integration among South American countries and strengthening Brazilian agribusiness in strategic Latin American markets.
Brazil Reaches 537 Market Openings Since 2023
With the announcement of this new sanitary authorization, Brazilian agribusiness reaches 537 market openings since the beginning of 2023—a milestone reflecting the ongoing efforts to expand and diversify trade led by the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MRE).
These advances underscore the Brazilian government’s commitment to competitively positioning the country in international trade, creating opportunities for producers and industries across different regions of Brazil.
Diplomatic and Technical Cooperation Drives Results
The result stems from coordinated action between Mapa and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Itamaraty), which work in an integrated manner to open new markets and harmonize sanitary and phytosanitary standards with foreign partners.
According to Mapa, diplomatic engagement has been essential to removing trade barriers, negotiating technical agreements, and strengthening Brazil’s image as a reliable and sustainable supplier of agribusiness products.
